Stapleton Castle and Garden
Stapleton, Herefordshire, England
Stapleton Castle was built in the 12th century on a hill above the River Lugg, probably by the Norman lord Hugh Fitz Osbern. The castle was later home to the powerful Mortimer family. It was slighted in the Civil War to prevent it from being used by Parliament and became a romantic ruin. Below the castle is a beautiful modern garden, open for the National Garden Scheme.
