Ardnamurchan Point, Scottish Highlands

The Story Behind the Image - Ardnamurchan Point

Ardnamurchan Point is famous as the most westerly point on the British mainland. I was staying for a week near Acharacle, exploring the Ardnamurchan and Moidart region, and I decided to visit the historic lighthouse at Ardnamurchan Point.

To reach the lighthouse you have to take a narrow, winding road along the shore, bounded by rocks on one side and a stone wall on the other.

When I arrived at the lighthouse parking area I looked back the way I had come and was instantly struck by the beauty of the scene, with the road seeming to wind and bend out of sight as it headed towards a line of distant peaks

I walked a short distance down the road and took this photo handheld. I love the winding road; it seems to beckon me into the unknown.
