Kentra Bay, Scottish Highlands

The Story Behind the Image - Kentra Bay, Ardnamurchan

A boat is drawn up on the shore of Kentra Bay, in the Scottish Highlands.

Kentra Bay acts as the northern border of the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, famous as the most westerly part of the British mainland.

I was staying for the week a holiday cottage just a hundred yards away from the loch. I had stayed out late photographing the night before and was extremely groggy

I happened to pry an eyelid open around 5 am and saw that there was mist hovering over the nearby loch. I dragged myself out of the cottage by sheer dint of will power and staggered along the loch shore.

I found this boat drawn up on the shore and was struck by how the vivid blue of the boat meshed perfectly with the blue waters of the bay.

What I recall most vividly is how utterly still the morning was; the mist seemed to muffle all sound, and the morning was so still that it seemed you could hear the world turning.
