Castle Hume

 photo, Castle Hume

Castle Hume stands on a hill overlooking the lovely little village of Hume, in the Scottish Borders. This Scottish castle should not be confused with the castle of the same name near Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. Hume was the power base of the Home (Hume) family. The earliest castle dates to the 13th century, but the current impressive structure is largely 16th century. I loved visiting Castle Hume; it isn't well known, but to me it has a fabulous aura, a mystique about it, and the location is wonderful.
