Take a nostalgic trip back in time at one of the finest historic properties in England. Rockingham Castle, near Market Harborough, Northamptonshire, is planning another of its popular Christmas openings this year. The entire castle is decorated as if it is Christmas Eve in the Victorian period. The castle courtyard will be decorated with illuminated trees, there will fires burning in hearths, and in the Great Hall of the castle, the table will be laid in anticipation of a Christmas feast.
Guides in Victorian costume lead visitors on a trip into history. Visitors can their Christmas shopping in the castle gift shop, and mince pies and hot drinks will be available in the castle restaurant.
Rockingham Castle was built by William the Conqueror, and was a royal possession for over 450 years. The Norman castle was transformed in the Tudor period into the house we can see today. The castle is set beside 18 acres of attractive gardens that include the 'Elephant Hedge', a curving, semi-circular hedge that runs through a formal 17th-century garden.
The Rockingham Castle Christmas opening takes place from 16-20 November. There is no charge to enter the grounds, shop, or restaurant. Castle tour: Adults £5 Children £1 Car park: £2
