This intriguing small museum features a collection of historic cars and motorcycles, including a Ford Model T, 1929 Rolls Royce Phantom, 1937 Bentley, and a 1968 Jaguar, as well as motoring memorabilia and model vehicles.
What to See
The collection covers the history of motoring from the earliest days of automobiles to the present day, with examples of vintage, classic, and veteran cars and motorbikes. Some of the cars are owned by local collectors, and displays change depending on which cars have been commandeered by the owners for motor shows!
Among the vehicles on display, a few deserve special mention. See the 1904 Speedwell, built for Culloden House and once used as a taxi on the Sutherland coast. Another highlight is a 1910 Daimler Tourer built for the Christie family of Blackhills. Rescued from a scrapheap and fully restored to running order.
Then there is the 1929 Rolls Royce Phantom I, built for a wealthy Maharajah as a hunting car. A more recent highlight is a 1959 Jensen 541R, a four-seater GT car with a 150hp Austin engine. The car was found mouldering in a barn and has been restored to better than new condition.
The historic vehicles are just part of the fun, for you can also browse displays of model cars and motoring memorabilia.
The museum is located in an old mill building. Part of the building was used by the Bishops of Moray as a grain mill in centuries past.
There is on-site parking, and a small entrance fee is charged. The museum also rents out vintage cars for special events such as weddings - arrive in style on your special day! Seasonal opening hours.
