Ceredigion
Heritage Coast
Description:
The
Ceredigion Heritage Coast is divided into four separate sections
totalling 21 miles, including
several nature reserves and marine conservation areas, a testament
to the wide variety of bird and animal populations it supports.
A partial list of birds to be seen includes cormorants, choughs,
raven, peregrine, and buzzard.
The
Cardigan Bay Special Area of Conservation itself supports a colony
of some 130 bottlenose dolphins. Porpoises,
and grey seals are frequently seen
close to shore.
The
coast has everything; rugged headlands jutting out into the sea,
small fishing villages and harbours, sandy beaches, isolated coves,
and clifftop grasslands. Just as importantly, the coast is sparsely
visited, leaving visitors with the peace and quiet to explore without
crowds. There are traditional seaside holiday centres at New Quay
and Aberystwyth, but away from these areas the coast has plenty
of secluded corners.
Penbryn,
near Aberporth, boasts long, sandy beaches backed by sand dunes
and woodland trails along the coast. At nearby Llangrannog a spectacular
walk along the cliffs leads to the National Trust promontory at
Ynys Lochtyn.

Countryside attractions:
Snowdonia
National Park
A superb climbing area, this mountainous region of northern Wales
has served as a training base for Mount Everest Expeditions, but
don't be intimidated by that; there is plenty here for the less
ambitious walker and climber. The
drama of Snowdonia is provided by its high peaks and steep, plunging
valleys, but there is also an abundance of open moorland and miles
of sandy beaches along the coast. More

Lleyn
Peninsula Heritage Coast
The
long, low Lleyn Peninsula is a largely unspoilt country
refuge
warmed by the Gulf Stream. The coast is varied, with steep, jagged
cliffs near Aberdaron contrasting with sand dunes and fine bathing
beaches in other areas (notably Porth Neigwl). More
