A county of contrasts, Hampshire contains within its boundaries
the busy port of Southampton and nearby Portsmouth, but just a few miles
away is the peaceful oasis of the New Forest National Park, where New
Forest ponies roam across the heath. The forest is not 'new'; it was
planted by William the Conqueror in the 11th century as a royal hunting
domain.
