 photo, Fotheringhay Castle

The scanty remains of Fotheringhay Castle belie its important place in British history. It was here that Mary, Queen of Scots, was held before her cousin, Elizabeth I, reluctantly signed her death warrant. A short walk along the River Nene brings you to the parish church of Fotheringhay, one of the most impressive medieval churches in Northamptonshire.
