Acton Burnell Castle - Bolingbroke Castle

One of the things I enjoy most about travelling around the UK is the chance to explore medieval castles. Here are photos of some of my favourite English castles, from the famous to a few unknown gems. These photos are only of places I have managed to get to so far, so there are no doubt some pretty famous castles missing from the gallery!

You can also browse our gazetteer of Castles in England or look county by county. If you fancy a stay in historic surroundings you can also find an English castle hotel.

Just for fun, here are my top five picks as the most scenic castles in England.
