Cotswold Jubilee Churches Festival 2012

Visiting historic churches is a particular passion of mine. If one is to judge by the number of people who attended events during last year's Cotswold Churches Festival, it is a passion shared by many others!

This year the churches of the Cotswolds region are holding another festival, timed to coincide with celebrations for the queen's Jubilee. The Jubilee Churches Festival runs from 25 May to 5 June 2012 and includes a wide variety of open days, Diamond Jubilee events, special services and celebrations, concerts, flower festivals, guided tours, and fairs.

The special festival website has full details on all events, participating churches, contact details, directions to help you find the churches, public transportation details, and much more. The website was experiencing some odd technical issues with its maps when I visited, but I'm sure they will be sorted quickly, and you can still find full details of events easily. So if you have an interest in historic churches, why not plan to visit one or two during the Jubilee Festival?

The churches participating rather stretch the traditional boundaries of the Cotswolds - with places as far afield as Ashton under Hill in Worcestershire and Easthamstead, near Bracknell taking part. There are churches from Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, and Wiltshire, including perhaps the most historic church in the region, Dorchester Abbey. Here is a list of churches currently listing events during the Jubillee Festival:
