The stairs leading from the south ambulatory to the Trinity Chapel, site of the shrine of St Thomas Becket. The stairs have been worn by the passage of thousands upon thousands of pilgrims over the centuries. Many would have made this final approach to Becket's shrine on their knees, thus wearing the stairs further.
