The early abbots of St Augustine's Abbey were buried within the church of St Peter and St Paul. The northern chapel of the church, or Porticus of St Gregory, is where the remains of abbots Laurence, Mellitus, and Justice were laid, in the tombs you see in this photo. The bodies were removed when the new church was complete in 1091, but the tombs can still be seen in their original location.
