Wilmington is a pretty village just west of Polegate. Wilmington is famous for the Long Man of Wilmington hill figure, carved into the chalk downs south of the village. Other highlights include the remains of medieval Wilmington Priory, the 12th-century parish church of St Mary and St Peter, and the Wilmington Yew, thought to be over 1,600 years old.

Winchelsea is a planned town, begun by Edward I in 1281 and boasting over 140 listed buildings. It is [arguably] the smallest town in England, and it retains three medieval gateways, the remains of two monasteries and a medieval hospital. John Wesley preached his last open-air sermon here.
