Castle Sween photo, Castle Sween

This ruined fortress dates on the to the late 12th century. It was built by Suibhne (pronounced "Sween") on the west coast of the Knapdale peninsula, looking across Loch Sween to Danna Island. It passed through many hands during the turbulent middle ages, until the MacDonald's slighted it (made it militarily unusable) in 1647.
