Cawdor Castle photo, Cawdor Castle

Cawdor Castle is an historic gem, located between Nairn and Inverness. The oldest part of the castle is a 14th century stone keep, to which wings were added in the 17th century. If you remember your Shakespeare you'll be familiar with the name of Cawdor, for in Macbeth, the witches promised the title character that he would become Thane of Cawdor. Legend says that the castle is site where the real Macbeth killed his rival Duncan.
