Dolforwyn Castle photo, Dolforwyn Castle

Dolforwyn was built by Llewelyn the Last, beginning in 1273. Llewelyn also built a planned town beside the castle, but in 1277 Edward I launched his first invasion of Wales by attacking Dolforwyn. The castle was destroyed, and the town rebuilt in the valley below, where it survives as the aptly named Newtown.
