Museum of London Archaeology Time Truck at Tune Hotel Liverpool Street

The Museum of London's Time Truck will be showcasing archaeological finds from London's Spitalfields district on 8-9 September in a free event. Some of the objects were found during excavations on the site of the Tune Hotel, Liverpool Street, and the hotel is offering a special discount to mark the Time Truck event.
Digging up the Past
You just never know what you'll find when you dig in London. Over the past several years of the Crossrail project archaeologists have unearthed thousands of historical objects including a large Saxon cemetery.
So perhaps it should come as no surprise that when archaeologists from the Museum of London archaeology team excavated on the Liverpool Street site of the Tune Hotel they unearthed a treasure-trove of historical items. Members of the public will get a rare chance to see the discoveries on 8-9 September when the MOLA's Time Truck visits the hotel site. The Time Truck is a 'museum on wheels', bringing objects from the Museum of London to a wider audience around the Greater London area.

The free Time Truck event will give visitors the chance to see a fascinating wealth of historical objects that sheds light on the lives of people who lived in this now fashionable area of London during the 18th and 19th centuries.
Objects on show will include items as diverse as tea sets, clay
tobacco pipes, table wares, and blacking bottles for polishing shoes. Beside the historical finds will be old maps, photos, and drawings that illustrate the history of Spitalfields over the centuries. Some of the more intriguing objects that caught my eye include a bone-handled toothbrush found in a privy on Spital Square, tin-glazed ceramics found at the Tune Hotel site, and a collection of clay pipes.
