Scotland's capital city and one of the most popular destinations in Britain. Edinburgh has a history going back to at least the 7th century, when a hillfort was established on a high hill, possibly the same hill where Edinburgh Castle now stands. A settlement grew up around the fort and grew to become a royal burgh. Visit the Royal Mile, linking Edinburgh Castle with the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the monarch's official residence in Scotland.
