The Story Behind the Image - Liathach at Dawn, Glen Torridon
Liathach is a mountain peak on the shore of Loch Torridon, at the south-western end of Glen Torridon in Wester Ross.
The mountain, whose name translates from the Gaelic as 'the Grey One' is a popular destination for walkers.
Over the course of a wonderful week I spent based near Torridon village I must have photographed Liathach a dozen times. I think this is my favourite view, taking in a small loch on the south side of Glen Torridon.
I arose well before sunrise and drove into the glen. I scrambled down to the loch in my rubber boots (essential photography equipment in the Highlands) and waited or sunrise.
This is the result, with the summit of Liathach highlighted by golden sunlight and the sky just starting to turn blue.
