Aysgarth Falls

The Story Behind the Image - Aysgarth Falls, Yorkshire Dales

I can't view this photo without immediately breaking into the Bryan Adam's song 'Everything I Do [I do it for you]'. Why? Because Aysgarth Falls in the Yorkshire Dales National Park was used as a setting for the Kevin Costner film 'Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves', and the theme song of that film was ... you guessed it.

But catchy songs aside, I love Aysgarth Falls. There are actually three waterfalls, named rather unimaginatively Upper, Middle and Lower Falls. Of these perhaps the easiest to get to is Upper Falls, seen here.

You can actually see the Upper Falls from the picturesque bridge across the River Ure, and to reach it all you have to do is follow a short signposted trail along the river bank You emerge at a picnic area with easy access to the waterfalls.

To get this shot I scrambled down a rock to get right to the waters' edge and used a long shutter speed to make the water look dreamier as it flowed over the rocks.
