Drystone Wall, Danby

The Story Behind the Image - Drystone Wall, Danby

Drystone walls are a traditional feature in many agricultural areas of Britain. I found idyllic scene is on the slopes of Danby Beacon, on the northern fringes of the North York Moors National Park.

This photo came about by accident; I was on my way to the top of Danby Beacon, hoping for a photo of the signpost on top of the Beacon with the fields of purple heather spread out below.

Unfortunately, it had been several years since I'd been to Danby Beacon and I took a wrong turning and ended up on a very narrow road running around the Beacon to the far side.

It took ages to find a good place to turn around on such a narrow road, and when I finally managed it I headed back the way I had come, fingers crossed that I would find my turning.

So, it was only by chance that I was heading past this scene, but as soon as I saw it I knew I needed to stop and capture it on camera!
