The Story Behind the Image - Thatched Cottage, North Yorkshire
I discovered this pretty thatched cottage in the North Yorkshire village of Thornton-le-Dale, between Pickering and Scarborough, on the southern fringes of the North York Moors National Park.
The cottage, known as Beck Isle Cottage, stands beside Thornton Beck and is regularly photographed for local and national calendars.
We came here on a sunny day in August, only to discover that the sun was too low in the sky to illuminate the front of the cottage. But every cloud has a silver lining; we had plenty of time to explore the village and have a hot cuppa in a local teashop before wandering back to the cottage and getting this photo.
