Clitheroe is a historic town on the River Ribble, best known for its Norman castle, which stands on a rocky hill overlooking the town. Inside the castle walls is a museum tracing the history of the town and the surrounding area. The town has links to the jet engine, developed here by Sir Frank Whittle.

Heysham is a seaside village south of Morecambe. Historical highlights include St Peter's Church, one of the oldest places of continuous Christian worship in Europe. On the clifftop near the church stands St Patrick's Chapel, said to have been founded by St Patrick himself, while on the cliff's edge are six rock-cut graves dating to the 10th or 11th century.

Lancaster is the county town of Lancashire and the administrative centre of the Duchy of Lancaster. The city dates to at least AD 80 when a Roman station was built here. Historic highlights include Lancaster Castle and the neighbouring Priory church, the City Museum (housed in the former Town Hall), and the Ashton Memorial, an Edwardian folly dubbed the 'Taj Mahal of the North'.

Ribchester is a picturesque village on the River Ribble. The village stands on the site of a 1st-century Roman fort. See artefacts from the fort in the Roman Museum. Stones from the fort are incorporated into the 13th-century church of St Wilfrid and Roman columns support the porch of the 1707 White Bull Hotel.

Waddington is a pretty village in the Ribble Valley of Lancashire just a few miles from historic Clitheroe. It was at Waddington Old Hall that Henry VI hid from his enemies in 1464-65 before he was betrayed and captured. Waddington is a past winner of the 'Best Kept Village in Lancashire' award.
