This ornate piece of Victoriana was built in 1900 to a design that was the winner of a nationwide contest. The fountain commemorates four events in the late Victorian history of Charlbury; the visit of Victoria herself to Cornbury in 1886, her Golden Jubilee the following year, the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 1897, and the gift of a pure drinking water supply to the town by local businessman Arthur Albright.
