Modern traffic still flows through the arch of medieval Bondgate Tower, which separates Bondgate Without from Bondgate Within. The tower is a product of the 15th century. It is also known as Hotspur Tower, after Sir Henry 'Hotspur' Percy, whose story is told in Shakespeare's play, Henry IV.
