The Story Behind the Image - Callanish Stone Circle, Dramatic Sky
This is one of series of photos I took over the course of three days photographing the amazing Callanish Stone Circle on the Isle of Lewis, in Scotland's Western Isles.
I must have visited the standing stones six times over the course of three days. I started each day at the stone circle in the early morning and ended it each night watching the sun set over the ancient stones.
This photo was taken on my second night on the Isle of Lewis. I love the cloud pattern behind the silhouetted stones, and the hint of purple and orange in the sky. What a beautiful location and what a beautiful island.
