The Story Behind the Images - Torridon
To say that I love photographing Torridon would be like saying I find breathing useful. Or that the sun tends to rise in the morning and set in the evening. This is perhaps the most beautiful area of Scotland, by turns bleak and forbidding then magically beautiful, painted with golden light across the lochs and mountains.
The Torridon region takes in not just Loch Torridon itself but Glen Torridon, following the Torridon River from the loch to Kinlochewe at the far end of the glen. One of my favourite places in the glen for photography is the circular walk that stretches south around Loch Clair and Loch Coulin.
On the A896 heading from Annat to Shieldaig you pass a viewpoint with amazing views over Loch Torridon and the peaks of Liathach and Beinn Alligin. On the hillside above Torridon village is an incredibly scenic waterfall offering magical views over the loch.
I was fortunate enough to spend a week in a holiday cottage at Annat, at the very end of the loch, and in the evenings I could look out of my cottage window and watch the sun setting over the loch. What an amazing location.
