I'm lucky enough to live just a few minutes drive from this idyllic view.

This is the old mill in Lower Slaughter, Gloucestershire, one of the most popular beauty spots in the Cotswolds.

The name Lower Slaughter is misleading. It has nothing to do with murder and mayhem; it comes from slough, a low-lying or marshy area.

In fact, you'd be hard-pressed to find a more idyllic village in England. Most of the village is laid out beside the slow-moving River Eye, which runs through the village on its way to join the River Windrush.

I've lost track of the number of times I've visited Lower Slaughter. Our family regularly go for circular walks starting here and following footpaths through farm fields to neighbouring Upper Slaughter before looping through the village and returning over the fields.

This is the place we bring visitors from overseas, who fall in love - as we did - with the beautiful village with its Cotswold stone cottages.
