The Story Behind the Image - Upper Slaughter
Let's clear up the name first. Upper Slaughter has nothing to do with slaughter, bloodshed or general mayhem. The name of this lovely Cotswold village comes from the same root as slough, for a low-lying or marshy area.
We live just a few miles away from the village and frequently go for a lovely circular walk taking in Upper Slaughter and the neighbouring village of Lower Slaughter.
Here you see the peaceful River Eye as it meanders through the village. In the foreground is a cobbled ford across the river for vehicles (or people wearing rubber boots!) and in the background is a low footbridge for those who prefer to keep their feet dry!.
