Maggie's Hoosie

Maggie's Hoosie is a traditional fish-wife's cottage with an earth floor and many of its original furnishings. It is a low, single storey building, with a rendered exterior beneath a tiled roof. The cottage stands out amidst its larger, more modern neighbours, and is a stone's throw from the sea, on Shore Street.

Visiting Maggie's Hoosie

Though Maggie's Hoosie is signposted from the roads leading into Inverallochy, it is not terribly well signed in the village itself. Indeed, I had to stop and ask at the local post office, where the very friendly woman set me straight.

To be fair, the village is small enough that you could park anywhere and simply stroll about until you found it!

Be aware that opening times are limited; usually to a few afternoon hours during the summer season.

Please check with the official Historic Environment Scotland website before making a special trip. Maggie's Hoosie makes a good complement to the Scottish Lighthouse Museum only a few miles away at Fraserburgh.
