One of the National Trust for Scotland's newer properties, Branklyn Gardens is a two acres enclave of colour on the outskirts of Perth, on the lower slopes of Kinnoull Hill. With rare plants, rhododendrons, alpines, herbaceous and peat-gardens plants, Branklyn packs a remarkable display of colour and horticultural interest into a small site. Especially interesting for botanists and gardeners.

Cluny House Gardens is a six-acre garden above the River Tay just east of Aberfeldy. Cluny boasts a wonderful display of Himalayan plants and is one of the best places in Britain to view red squirrels. Within the garden is a giant Sequoiadendron (Wellingtonia) with the widest girth of any conifer in Britain.

Drummond Castle is home to Scotland's most impressive formal gardens, approached by a beech lined drive. The gardens, first laid out in the 17th century, are designed in the Italian parterre style with a sundial in the middle. The surrounding woods were used in the film, 'Rob Roy'.

Kinnoull Hill Tower is a castellated folly dramatically sited on the extreme edge of a high hill overlooking the River Tay. 17th-century gardens surround the elegant country house of Kinross, overlooking Loch Leven. Both gardens and house were designed by Sir William Bruce in 1685. Bruce was a fascinating character; a courtier and statesman with a passion for architecture. He was the first true classical architect in Scotland and was variously compared by his contemporaries to Inigo Jones and Sir Christopher Wren.

The gardens feature a walled garden, a formal parterre, clipped topiary, and yew trees thought to be 1000 year old. The Meikleour Hedge was planted in 1746 and is the tallest hedge in the world. It stands 100 ft (30m) high and spans 586 yards (539m). The hedge is located right on the A93 highway, so drive slowly by for the best viewing experience.
