First September holiday for 40 years
This was a very special holiday because having been a teacher for 40 years I have never had a holiday in September and wanted it to be perfect. The cottage is lovely and had everything we needed for a great stay. The porch was ideal for all of the dog food, coat, leads, walking shoes etc. The owners were lovely and had left a very thoughtful welcome gift. They also pointed us towards Leek for the monthly market, which was excellent. The information folder was extremely helpful. Guinness ( our greyhound) thought he was in heaven- lovely walks literally on the doorstep and a garden. I would thoroughly recommend the cottage - it's great for dog owners and within easy reach of Alton Towers and the Peak Widlife Centre.

Cosy little cottage in beautiful countryside
We came here for summer holiday with 2 dogs and a child, and had a lovely stay. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, perfect for walking and cycling (especially the old railway line), and there is plenty to do in the local area too.
The cottage is well equipped, and the owners are friendly and welcoming and live very nearby in case of any problems. There is a little porch/utility area for bikes, the garden is mostly dog safe (though there is a low wall on one side which a determined dog could scale) and there is a lovely breeze through the old railway tunnel which is perfect for the recent heatwave. We enjoyed sitting and eating meals outside. Inside is cosy, but has everything you need for a pleasant stay. Be aware that the bathroom is downstairs (the stairs are pretty steep) so if you have any mobility issues this may cause you problems.
The only reason I haven't given 5 stars is that the mattresses were not very comfy at all! Not an issue if you're a good sleeper, but seeing as my wife was heavily pregnant it was a shame for us!
Would definitely recommend to small families, we really enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful property
I have just come back from a week in this property and cannot speak highly enough of it. It has been lovingly restored and the fixtures and fittings are very good quality. If I could have got the cooker in the car i might have been tempted to steal it. There is ample parking off road so no problem there. Walks from the front door are plentiful and of varying lengths. The owners of the property have put an information folder in the house and it covers everything you need to know. A separate part has instructions for all the appliances which is extremely useful. I would thoroughly recommend this property. I hope to visit again in the future.

An Incredible Grade II Rental Home
This property must be pretty much unique. A detached former Railway Crossing Keeper's home, set in its own fully enclosed and lawned garden. Enclosed off road parking for four cars. Decorated to a high standard, but in keeping with the period of this beautiful property. King size double bedroom and twin bedroom sleeps four. Stairs are a little steep, as with all properties of this style and age, but are ok unless you have walking difficulties. Fully fitted kitchen with microwave, range, large fridge-freezer, dishwasher and a breakfast area. Dining room, and a cosy snug living room with an electric effect ?log burner?, Smart TV, DVD and WiFi. Downstairs bathroom with large shower and large bath to a high standard. Every modern convenience required has been thoughtfully built into this character home, including a utility room for walking boots and waterproofs etc. The village of Oakamoor has several walking and off-road cycling routes on the doorstep of this property, including a great daytime lunches/snacks destination called ?The Ramblers Retreat?. We came here for a 20th Wedding Anniversary and the Owners could not have made us any more welcome, especially with their own provided ?welcome pack?. Very Highly Recommended, we loved it and are likely to return.
