RECENT CUSTOMER REVIEWS

The location is the best part of this property.
The location was the best thing about it - literally a minute from the high street. The parking is adequate if you are able to drive well and park with assistance, we had a Touareg (big car!) and were able to park but we did hang over next doors entrance a bit, but they were very nice about it. I hope the owner takes the comments into account as this place could really be great and I would like to give them 5 stars! I have many points below about this property that the owner could rectify to make this a much nicer place with little cost to themselves. As many others have said, this cottage lacks TLC and investment. Its clearly used only for holiday lettings only and I guess with the lack of business over the season, money has run short to rectify some of the issues this property has so I am sympathetic. However, I will list them for the owners information as follows:- *Essentials*: The downstairs bathroom was dirty and cobwebs everywhere it needs a really good scrub, the window did not close (obvious security issue) so they came immediately to screw it shut and will need fixing properly at some point. No locks on the bathrooms or bedrooms. The blender in the drawer doesn't work, no oven gloves. Lots of broken glasses simply turned upside down and left in the dresser (none of them broken by us). The TV in the lounge has no signal (we didn't use it much so weren't too bothered). The pillows were like rock, they must be 10 years old! *take your own!* (or please replace all the pillows!) the beds are uncomfortable. Gas fire does not work. The back door needs a doormat. The toilet brushes were broken and IMO need replacing each stay, at a cost of 50p per brush you'd have thought this would be a given, but we had to handle others 'dirt' until I cleaned them myself. I had to clean a lot of areas in the property to make it habitable for us as a family. The boiler needs a thermostat, we had to turn it on then go around the property adjusting the valves on the radiators depending on the weather. There is no rubbish collection as far as we can see, there was a green bin left outside full up with others rubbish in that was not collected and began to smell. Broken window in the garage door in the patio area. TIPs: it could do with proper stand up shower attachment in the downstairs bathroom as this would be much better for a large family. Replace the rusty and old accessories like the curtain poles, the broken strings on the blinds in the lounge. Everywhere needs a good scrub and new lick of paint. Needs mirrors in the bathrooms (nowhere to see to shave for a man). Need bins in each bathroom. The outside area could do with some cleaning and weeding, and others rubbish picked up and moved on. Generally we were fine here in the property (family of 5) but for the money spent on the rent for this property we did expect a bit more than what we got. As said, these are just tips for the owner to take a look at rather than any sort of criticism.

Great winter break.
The house is great. 3 layers high and very cosy with an extremely spacious kitchen and dining room on the lowest level, also a great bathroom and garden here too, you can access the back street here, this space was great to hang around in with family and there is a TV here too. The second level is street level and has the cozy living room and a bedroom. The top level had 2 bedrooms and a bathroom with a shower. All in all the house is great, but the location is amazing in Windermere, you are a stones throw from pubs, bars, shops and restaraunts/takeaways. We had 3 cars and only managed to park one outside, this is no problem though, the lady at the cottage rental store showed us where to park for free, but I just stuck it in the car park around the corner on Broad Street for £30 . 7 days at £30 is a steal it's that a night in most cities.

Right on the door step
This cottage was perfect for 6 adults and one dog. Two spacious rooms and a shower room on the top floor was great for our daughter / son and their partners while we took the room on the middle floor opposite the living room. A short flight of stairs took you down to a very well appointed kitchen and dining area. With a bathroom to the rear .Two TV,s and lots of seating meant we could all spread out if needed and Barney [ our black lab] loved the patio area outside. A 4 minute walk to Booths for shopping and being right in the village meant all the pubs and restaurants were close by. Parking at the rear was adequate for a medium size car and it only cost £15 for a 3 day ticket at the nearest car park two minutes walk away. Great Location !!

Poor
Warning! There is a parking space for a small car but if the other houses have cars there is no access to it or out of it except by foot. The people in the car parking space beside could not get out when they were leaving. The sofa in the lounge looked like it had been mauled by an animal, about 30% of the faux leather had fallen off, see my profile picture. There are instructions for the heating but they are not for the heating in this house. No instructions for rubbish etc. Outside is kept in a poor condition and is dirty. A painter arrived and said he would be painting the house for a week at the owners request, thankfully he decided he wouldn't as it would spoil our holiday.

Overall good
The cottage is well placed in Windemere which has lots of bars, shops and restaurants. We were travelling with a dog and the ground floor of the house is well set up with direct access to a small outside patio and a large kitchen diner. The house was comfortable but would benefit from the addition of a DVD player, coffee maker and Wi-Fi. Although you can park outside, the space is quite tight and the entrance to the lane is narrow so you need to have a small car and be competent in reversing.
