A historical large family holiday home sleeping 14 positioned near Garelochhead in Helensburgh, Argyll and Bute. 16th -century. Barbecue hut.

Pet-friendly. Garelochhead less than 4 miles; Helensburgh less than 9 miles; Glasgow less than 31 miles; Edinburgh less than 84 miles.

Less than an hour from Glasgow and its international airport, step back in time at Strone House, an historic retreat near Loch Lomond. Less than less than 4 miles from the Gare Loch and nestled within the breathtaking landscapes of Helensburgh and the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park, this magnificent 16th C property blends rich history with modern comforts and facilities. Water sports and wild swimming opportunities abound - the spacious garage has plenty of room for canoes, kayaks and wet suits (no cars please - swallows nest here in summer) with extensive room in the parking area for six cars.

It is an ideal escape for large families or groups of friends seeking an unforgettable Scottish getaway. The air is so pure, when the skies are clear guests have seen the Aurore Borealis from the garden! From the moment you arrive, the charm of Strone House is unmistakable. Bordered by Fruin Water which flows down to Loch Lomond and surrounded by rolling countryside, its striking white stone walls and black timber beams create a sense of timeless atmosphere.

The monument to the decisive Battle of Glen Fruin in 1603 is close by. Inside, the character continues through the four inviting living spaces: the elegant Drawing Room with a huge open fireplace, ancient stone walls and timbered ceilings, the cozy Piano Room, the large Sitting Room with wood-burning stove and TV; and the bright, airy Conservatory perfect for breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea, overlooking the gardens with peacocks, barn owls and pheasants, and an enclosed courtyard where ducks and hens roam freely. At the heart of the home lies the well-equipped, spacious farmhouse kitchen (and AGA!) and a Dining Room seating up to 14 guests making it perfect for celebratory dinners.

For special occasions it is possible to request a private Chef. Fresh eggs from the resident chickens and ducks add a charming touch to your morning meal. For entertainment, guests can enjoy the Games Room with table tennis, table football, darts, assorted games and toys, a children’s painting table and the Croquet set is stored here.

The Library landing provides a very varied selection of books. After a day of adventure, retreat to one of the six comfortable bedrooms and four bathrooms. Stepping outside reveals a private paradise with mature gardens and view down the Glen, a hot tub, sauna and BBQ hut for relaxation.

In former times, this current single track road, listed in “Important Scottish Hill Tracks”, the Glen Fruin Road was the 'M1 of its day' connecting the major Scottish routes north south east and west. Nearby attractions include the world famous Hill House by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Balloch Castle and its beautiful country park, Inveraray Castle. Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate watersports on Loch Lomond and the Clyde, a sailing paradise, nearby beaches such as Cove Bay and Culag Beach.

Scenic hikes for all levels such as Ben Lomond, Conic Hill, Ben Arthur (The Cobbler), not forgetting The Strone, Beinn a’Mhanaich, Beinn Chaorach and the " Three Lochs Way” long distance path (linking to the famous "West Highland Way”) straight from the door! With award winning restaurants in Helensburgh, plenty of exciting day trips, Arran, Stirling, Edinburgh, in summer with the longer days Oban, Loch Ness and there is even a daily connection for the Harry Potter Train from Garelochhead Station. Strone House promises a stay with a wealth of cultural treasures, history and unforgettable memories.
