Medieval Monasteries in Redcar and Cleveland

Gisborough Priory was founded in 1119 by Robert de Brus, an ancestor of King Robert Bruce of Scotland. Highlights include the imposing east window, which still stands to its full height of 71 feet. Beside the ruins is a 14th-century dovecote. The priory ruins form part of an 18th-century landscape garden built by the Chaloner family.
