A small chapel stands over a holy well dedicated to St Kenelm, a 9th-century Mercian prince, murdered by his sister. The wellhead chapel is 19th century, but the site has ben a destination for pilgrims since Saxon times. Located off a footpath just outside the picturesque Cotswold village of Winchcombe.

The chancel of a medieval hospital for lepers stands in a public park on the eastern fringe of Gloucester. The hospital, now demolished, was founded for female lepers around 1150. Inside the chapel is a 13th-century effigy of a woman, thought to be St Kyneburgh, a 7th-century Saxon princess.

There has been a church in Stow-on-the-Wold since at least the 10th century. The present church dates to the 13th century and was rebuilt in Perpendicular Gothic style by wealthy medieval wool merchants. Highlights include a huge early 17th-century Flemish painting of the Crucifixion.

St Mary's church in the market town of Tetbury may be the oldest site of Christian worship in Gloucestershire. The Georgian Gothic building may stand atop a 7th-century Saxon monastery. During the mid-Victorian period, it was customary for families to pay a rental fee for their church pew. Naturally, those wealthy enough usually paid for the best (usually meaning the most prominent and easily visible) seating. However, this left poor families at an enormous disadvantage as the increasingly large box pews were taken by the wealthy parishioners.
