A unique family attraction celebrating the life and times of the Venerable Bede, an 8th-century monk who raised scholarship and learning to new levels in the heart of the so-called 'Dark Ages'. Bede was a monk and writer at Jarrow Monastery, a short stroll away.

Jarrow Hall is a listed Georgian mansion overlooking the site of the Saxon monastery. Jarrow Hall recreates the Saxon world of the 8th century through interactive exhibits, archaeological museum, a historical herb garden, and regular displays of Saxon life. See how the Saxons lived, with authentic timber buildings and a recreation of a Saxon farm.

Within the Jarrow Hall site stands the remains of St Paul's monastery, containing the ruins of the monastery where Bede lived and worked for much of his life.

The Age of Bede exhibition displays artefacts from excavations on the Jarrow monastery site, some dating from the 7th and 8th centuries. Included in the artefacts are some of the first pieces of coloured glass in Britain.
