Shandy Hall is a 15th-century hall house behind a brick facade. From 1760-1768 it was the home of the writer and cleric Laurence Sterne, the author of Tristam Shandy. The Hall holds the world's largest collection of Sterne memorabilia including first-editions and letters. It stands in a lovely two-acre garden.

Sion Hill Hall is an Edwardian country house in beautiful neo-Georgian style. It is the work of architect WH Brierley of York, and must be considered one of the finest country houses built in the years running up to WWI. Brierley, who has been called the 'Lutyens of the North', built the house in 1913 for Percy and Ethel Stancliffe.

Sledmere has been the home of the Sykes family since 1748, when Richard Sykes inherited the manor from his uncle, Mark Kirkby. Sykes, who later served as High Sheriff of Yorkshire, wanted a house to reflect his rising social status, and in 1751 he embarked on a major building project to create a grand country estate.

A lovely Georgian country house in glorious parkland, Sutton was built around 1730 by Thomas Atkinson for Philip Harland. The interiors contain a collection of fine art and furniture from the former Buckingham House in London (now Buckingham Palace). The decoration features ornate plasterwork by Giuseppe Cortese, who also worked on Burton Constable Hall and Somerset House in Halifax.

Temple Newsam is a superb 15th-century country house, famous as the birthplace of Lord Darnley, the ill-fated husband of Mary, Queen of Scots. The manor of Newsam was owned by the Knights Templar in the 12th century. The estate passed to the Darcy family, and Thomas, Lord Darcy built the first manor house here in about 1500.
