Aberfoyle is the western gateway to the Trossachs, an attractive town located in Queen Elizabeth Forest Park at the southern end of the famous Duke's Pass. Look for Doon Hill, traditionally said to be a sacred place for faeries. The ruined church in Kirkton boasts a pair of iron mort safes for keeping corpses safe from grave robbers.

The little village of Balquhidder is famous as the final resting place of Rob Roy MacGregor, the 18th-century outlaw. His grave lies outside the 1641 Old Kirk, the final resting place of Clan MacLaren chiefs. On the hill above is Creag an Tuirc (Rock of the Boar) the MacLarens' traditional rallying point.

Callander is the largest town in the Trossachs and lies just south of the Pass of Leny. This is a popular centre for outdoor activities and the Woodland Trust operates an outdoor activity centre at Glen Finglas. Just outside Callander is Bracklinn Falls, popular since the Victorian period, and the Falls of Leny lies just to the north.

Killin is an attractive village at the western end of Loch Tay. The thundering Falls of Dochart flow under a historic bridge at the southern end of the village, while at the northern end is the grim 11th-century Campbell stronghold of Finlarig Castle, now a ruin. The ancient Healing Stones of St Fillan are preserved in the Old Mill.
