White Cow Wood Cairn (c) Ballogie
White Cow Wood Cairn

White Cow Wood Cairn stands in a wooded plantation near Mintlaw, Aberdeenshire. The original cairn was just over 14 metres across and about three metres high. Many of the cairn stones have been removed, and some are in a heap to the east of the cairn.

Kerb stones remain around the cairn exterior. Within the cairn, space is a rectangular chamber bounded by 3 standing stones and a cover slab (there were originally five stones but two have disappeared).

The tallest of the three standing stones is only about 0.5 metres high (about 1.5 foot). The kerb stones were graded in height, a feature found in the Clava Cairn style of burials.

Other prehistoric sites in the same area include Aikey Brae Stone Circle, Loudon Wood Stone Circle, and Berrybrae Stone Circle.
