The life and times of Banchory's own James Scott Skinner, composer and musician, are explored in this museum, along with exhibitions of tartans, Victoriana, and natural history.
Skinner (1843 – 1927) was known as the 'Strathspey King' for his role in popularising traditional Scottish fiddle music.
There is much more to explore than the life of JS Skinner, though; see finds of archaeology from across Aberdeenshire, a display of 19th/20th-century clan tartans, and an exhibit on the natural history of Deeside. Learn about Deeside's connection with the royal family. See royal commemorative china pieces and Victoriana.
One of the most intriguing exhibits is a collection of artefacts focussed on local folklore and traditions. In addition, there is an archive collection that will be valuable for anyone interested in exploring their family tree.
