Queen's View, Loch Tummel

The Story Behind the Image - Queen's View, Perthshire

A golden sunrise spreads over Loch Tummel at Queen's View near Pitlochry, Perthshire. To get this photo I got up long before dawn and drove from the holiday cottage I was renting for the week near Aberfeldy.

I arrived at Queen's View to find the viewing platform deserted (no surprise given the early hour) and was able to set up my tripod and simply wait for the dawn.

Standing and waiting is something any landscape photographer quickly gets used to, though it can be challenging in the pre-dawn chill!

It was worth the wait, though, when I got this lovely photo looking down the loch towards Schiehallion in the distance.

Queen's View is probably named for Isabella, the first wife of Robert Bruce, though Queen Victoria thought it was named for her.
