Perfect for our stay in Mid-Wales! Must go back!
I chose the location because it promised very dark skies for night time astronomy, and on the dates we were there Mars was at it brightest for some decades. It also offers a great location for day time trips around the stunning countryside. My buddy and I had some marvellous day trips and saw some fantastic views, and generally the daytime weather was very good too. Places like the River Irfon and valley, Llanerchaeron NT, and Penbryn NT, Devil's Bridge, the Precipice Walk near Dollgellau, and I could go on.. As a self-catering cottage/bungalow, Dolau Meurig had everything we wanted, very comfortable, clean, all mod cons, nice and secluded area, dark at night with space to setup our scopes, facing South too, with a very low horizon from East thru South thru West, absolutely perfect! At night-time the weather gods were not quite so amenable but we did manage a clear sky on two nights out of the week, and took advantage of the second to see Mars in amazing glory as well as bask under the Milky Way. The owners live next door and were on hand socially distanced should we have any questions, but we didn't really. All was great. Plenty of places nearby to eat, or we could stay in. We took advantage before the lockdown came in of multiple nice pubs and restaurants with food and went to the supermarket in Tregaron for breakfast items. I really could not fault any of our stay. It was all top drawer, credit to the owners. Highly recommended if you want a holiday of this type, walking/cycling/hiking and so forth. I will definitely be going back!
