Overpriced for what it was. Attention reuired for ensuite bathroom and cleanliness
The house was not ready for our arrival. Cleaners were still in the property after the specified arrival time. It was ready almost 2 hours later with an inadequate apology from Sykes. Kitchen was not properly cleaned nor bathrooms.
No thoughtful extras such as welcome treats or provision of additional loo rolls, hand soap or dishwashing liquid. We had to head to the supermarket right away. We needed garbage bin liners and everything and had to properly clean the kitchen and bathroom ourselves!
The ensuite bathroom was woeful. The loo in the master bedroom operated on some sort of pump mechanism. An awful smell emanated from the toilet. We left it alone, thinking the cleaners had not cleaned it properly. We avoided using it altogether, mindful already of all the caution signs. and the pressure of the shower was not strong at all. We all shared the main bathroom on the first floor.
The kitchen is miniscule! Not designed properly for a self-catering holiday. We barely managed to store all our stuff and were lucky my parents were staying closeby. It has only a bar fridge in the kitchen. Extra refridgeration was available downstairs in the damp cellar. Just watch out for newts!
Location was good although parking is tricky at the rear of the house and the street itself can be crowded in the summer.
Unless the pump toilet is replaced, cleanliness of the property is rectified, welcome refreshments and amenities provided including washing-up liquid I would be averse to having to spend so much more. It's a premium price to pay for this type of accommodation in Bowness.
Location is good. Lots of toys for the kids and good TV,
We took care to leave the property very clean and tidy on departure.

Extras
The cottage is nice and spacious ,but lacks the little extras ,this is the first time have arrived at a self catering place where there are no tea coffee sugar salt pepper etc to start you off and no hand soap in the bathrooms ,,annoying having to start buying all these things you would expect. To be already there ,it is the little touches that make places more appealing ,

Woefully inadequate for 8 people
We booked for a special weekend with 3 other couples. Very disappointed with the accommodation. Would maybe suit 2x couples with children but definitely too small for 8 adults. Kitchen is tiny and access to the 2nd fridge and freezer in the cellar is very tricky. The freezer was too iced up to use before defrosting first, the 2nd fridge was rank with mould. Upstairs toilet and basin is too tiny to close the door to do your teeth - and decor (barbed wire seat, dark blue paint) is inappropriate. In the main bathroom the boiler is so close to the toilet you have to be very careful not to hit your head as you stand. The en-suite shower was filthy/mouldy, the door sticks so badly I had to be rescued a couple of times (left it open after that) and the saniflo loo. Really not in an appropriate condition to let. A convenient location but a very disappointing property.
