Low Jock Scar is a charming country estate just a few miles north of Kendal, nestled in the serene Bannisdale Valley â a hidden gem of the Lake District. Tucked alongside Bannisdale Beck, this riverside estate is surrounded by private woodlands and offers an enchanting retreat. The soothing sound of the beck adds to the estate's charm, making it a truly idyllic destination.
Positioned between two historic Grade II-listed packhorse bridges, including one on Wainwright's Horseshoe walk, the estate is conveniently located off the A6, making it an ideal base for exploring the UNESCO World Heritage National Park. With its picturesque gardens and snug cottages, Low Jock Scar provides a tranquil haven for relaxation after a day of exploring. Whether you prefer hiking, cycling, or venturing by car, you'll find comfort in returning to this tranquil retreat to unwind and plan your next adventure.
Surrounded by hills, woodlands, and meadows, the estate is a sanctuary for wildlife. While some creatures are easily spotted, others, like deer, quietly roam at dusk. The estate features four beautifully-crafted cottages, all built from traditional Lakeland stone with slate roofs, offering stunning garden views from every window.
Riverside Cottage boasts four en-suite bedrooms, including one on the ground floor. Butterfly Cottage has three bedrooms, with one en-suite on the ground floor and two upstairs. Tulip Cottage and Lily Cottage each provide a lovely one-bedroom option.
Together, the cottages accommodate up to 18 guests, making them perfect for both individual stays or group gatherings with family and friends. Low Jock Scar transforms with the seasons, each offering a unique charm. In spring, daffodils dance along the riverbank as the sun streams through the bridges.
Summer brings vibrant gardens filled with colourful flowers and lush greenery. Autumn turns the landscape into a tapestry of gold and red, while misty mornings add an ethereal touch to the hills. Winter unveils the surrounding countryside as frost and snow adorn the peaks and bare trees.
Whatever the season, the cottages provide a warm and inviting escape. Snuggle by the log burner on chilly evenings or relax outdoors in one of the seating areas during summer nights. On clear evenings, marvel at the starry skies while listening to the gentle flow of the beck.
For a unique experience, enjoy dining on the deck perched along the beck, complete with seating, dining furniture, and a barbecue area. Book your stay at Low Jock Scar to experience this stunning rural retreat in the heart of the Lake District.
