St John's Commandery was a medieval chapel that was converted into a farm building during the 16th century. The Commandery features a striking timber roof with an ornamental plaster ceiling.
The Commandery belonged to the Knights of St John Hospitaller (The forerunner of the modern St John Ambulance). It is built of flint and served as both a chapel and hall for a chapter of the chivalric order.
Visiting
Though there is a parking area, it was locked when I visited, so be prepared to find parking along the verge (which thankfully is not difficult here). Note that the interior is usually only open by prior arrangement.
