Warwick Castle photo, Warwick Castle

The first castle at Warwick was built by order of William the Conqueror. Simon de Montfort destroyed most of William's castle during the 13th century Baron's Revolt. The resulting rebuilding gave us the wonderful medieval fortress we can see today. The oldest part of the castle is The Mound, the original Norman motte seen here.
