Craigellachie Bridge
Craigellachie Bridge

A village at the junction of the rivers Fiddich and Spey, about two miles east of Aberlour, Craigellachie has been called the most beautiful village in the old county of Banffshire, and with good reason.

Across water meadows from the village is the craggy outcrop of Upper Craigellachie Rock, which traditionally marked the boundary between the estates of Clan Grant and Strathspey. The Grant family based their war-cry on the rock, 'Stand fast, Craigellachie'.

At the base of the rock is a suspension bridge built by famed Scottish engineer Thomas Telford to carry traffic over the River Spey. The single-span bridge was considered a marvel of engineering when it was built.

Three miles away is historic Balvenie Castle, while just a bit further away are the ancient sites of Little Conval Fort and the Mortlach Battle Stone.
