The name 'Carnoustie' is revered among golf fanatics around the world, thousands of whom flock to this village on the east coast of Angus each year to play the Carnoustie Golf Club course. The Club was established formally in 1842, though there was an informal gold club before that date.
Today, Carnoustie is a mix of golfing mecca and holiday resort, with seaside family activities centred around a wide, sandy beach.
The area also has a tradition of industry, with the primary focus on jute, and fruit preserves (we're not far from Dundee, after all!).
There are a pair of historic remains close by; Carlungie Earth House is only three miles away, and Ardestoe Earth House just a bit further.
At Broughty Ferry, a historic castle overlooks the Tay, and at nearby Barry is a restored 19th-century meal mill.
